International Women’s Day: Boosh Food founder reflects on her entrepreneurial journey

In the early 1900’s, early working women were fed up with how they were treated. So, they banded together and made massive strides for us. They demanded and fought for shorter work hours, better pay and the right to vote—can we get an A-women to that!

Fast forward a century and change to now where each year on March 8 we remember and celebrate women on International Women’s Day (a day recognized by the United Nations, thank-you-very-much).

Connie Marples, our team Boosh Food leader, was recently interviewed for a local newspaper, The Cloverdale Reporter. In the article she dishes her best business advice for women entrepreneurs.

This International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate our fearless leader with Boosh Food lovers, aspiring entrepreneurs, and beyond. Read on to get the scoop on Connie’s experience and inspiration.

1) Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a glass full, happy, energetic person and am blessed to be wife, mother and grandmother (Yaya) to an amazing family. My best friend since grade five was my first retail customer as she works at Nature’s Fare Markets. I grew up in the Okanagan with a natural affinity towards cooking and using fresh local ingredients with a great love for vegetables; hence Boosh Food was born.

2) What about your career path? How did you get your start?

My work has always centered around sales, marketing and food; from a promotions manager at a radio station to owner/operator of a wine bar and VQA wine store, the creative side of work is what fuels me. I was passionate about becoming an entrepreneur from a very early age.

3) Tell us a little about your business?

Boosh Food was created to help busy people get healthy meals on the table in minutes. We know we should eat more plant-based foods, but that can take some meal planning effort, so Boosh makes it easy for you.

4) What advice do you have for young women just starting in business/careers?

Follow your bliss.
Do what you love.
And if you can’t do what you love at the moment, then put love into whatever you are doing.

It’s surprising to think back on all my past jobs; they’ve all contributed to where I am now with Boosh Food.

5) Anything you’d like to add?

I’m very happy and grateful to be part of the local Surrey community and receive support from Buy BC and BC Food and Beverage. Such a great time to be in the food production industry.
