How Self Care Plays a Role in Our Health
We’ve learned a lot about self-care over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that self-care goes hand-in-hand with being healthy and is a lifelong habit. But what does it mean to be healthy?
At Boosh Food™, being healthy means following the seven pillars of self-care, one of which includes eating nutritious foods.
Healthy eating is about consuming nutrient-rich foods within reasonable portions. Not only do our bodies become nourished but eating healthy helps to reduce the risk of many chronic diseases. The best way to learn about what to eat is by following Canada’s Food Guide.
Let’s not dance around it - comfort foods by nature are not always the healthiest options, but they satisfy our stomachs. After all, they’re called comfort foods for a good reason - they help our bodies release serotonin, a “feel-good” hormone. It’s no secret that comfort foods are also associated and linked to emotional eating which can result in weight-gain and other health risks.
There are some tactics to keep emotional eating in check, such as mindful eating, portion control, and finding healthy alternatives.
To us, eating healthy shouldn’t mean having to sacrifice taste. That’s why our comfort foods are centred around being made with delicious, plant-based ingredients that balance the nutrients our bodies need with the tastes we crave. Our meals can be enjoyed guilt-free and are part of a balanced diet.
After all, self-care also means being happy - especially - with what you eat.
