We know making meals from scratch with fresh ingredients every day is ideal but not realistic—and that’s ok!

Just because you’re busy doesn’t mean you should have to compromise on healthy, delicious meals for you and your family. That’s what inspired the creation of Boosh Food: To offer convenient, delicious meals that are healthy to busy people who want to eat a more plant-based diet.

In honour of #FrozenFoodMonth, we’re sharing our top three tips on how to choose the best frozen foods:

Read the label.

Frozen foods often get a bad rap as overly processed or full of preservatives. Well, not all frozen foods are created equal! Check the ingredients and nutrition facts before you add a product to your cart.

Look for items that are low in sugar, salt and saturated fat and high in fibre, vitamins and minerals. Generally, if the list is short and has ingredients you can pronounce, you are good to go.

Check out the nutrition facts on our frozen dinners.

Look for flash-frozen items.

Fruits and vegetables slated to be frozen are picked at their peak ripeness. This means they not only taste great, but they also offer their optimal health benefits because freezing them helps to preserve their nutrients.

Buy plain.

When they’re seasoned or sweetened, not only are you adding extra calories your fruits and veggies are less versatile. Having plain frozen fruits & veggies on hand is a great way to easily add a healthy side to any meal. Here are some ideas:

Breakfast: Add some frozen blueberries to your smoothie for natural sweetness and a boost of antioxidants.

Lunch: Toss a veggie medley in a skillet, add crumbled tofu and seasoning into the pan then roll into a warmed burrito for sit down or on the go.

Dinner: Toss frozen veggies and edamame into a pot with some veggie stock, soya sauce, fresh ginger and sriracha, add in noodles and you have a quick healthy Asian-inspired soup.

Treat: Make a chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie! Follow the recipe instructions in the Nutrition Month 2021 Recipe Guide.
