Debunking myths during Celiac Awareness Month
We all have that one friend who stumps the server at your local restaurant with the question, “do you have any gluten-free menu options?” Not because they’re high maintenance and can’t order from the menu, but they may have celiac disease.
This May is Celiac Awareness Month, a month that aims to help us understand that celiac is an actual disease and answer the questions of “what IS gluten?” and “why does it have such a bad reputation?” Well, spoiler alert: gluten is a group of proteins in wheat, rye, barley, and other grains. And it can create havoc on a person who has celiac disease.
“Sometimes you come home from a long day at work or rather push away from the computer, these days,” says Connie Marples, founder of Boosh Foods. “You may want to pop an entrée into the microwave or oven, have a satisfying meal, then go do something you enjoy without the cleanup. But when you suffer from celiac disease complications, that’s hard to do, as there aren’t a lot of gluten-free easy and quick meal options available.”
“That’s why I created Boosh Food,” adds Marples. “I have food challenges as a result of celiac disease and saw the need for delicious, nutritionally balanced, heat and serve, family-oriented comfort meals that are 100% plant-based, non-GMO and gluten-free. And can be eaten from the couch with your feet up on the coffee table!”
